Very low volume. You should always do an end-to-end audio check. Use the exact same source and playback as your audience will. Adjust source volume so mid-volume selection on playback yields comfortable listening level. Also, ensure no distortion is recorded in the source. I'd advise individual mics for each participant in a conversation. Makes level-matching much easier and more effective.
Hey Richard, that is great advice in an ideal world where our guests have mics but the do not. They usually just record off their laptops. Then Connie has to turn her volume to match like Anthony the other commenter said. We try to match levels as best we can with limited technology and no studio space. We hear your complaints and we try our best to mitigate sound issues.
Sorry, not gonna fly. We fortunately exist in an age where excellent and affordable audio/video tech is widely available. Furthermore, acquiring and utilizing such tech is both easily done and very effective in producing quality presentations rivaling those of professional sources. Failure to do so lies more with content creators unable or unwilling to learn the tools of their trade than with technical or cost barriers.
The volume is very low, but thankfully it is low for both you and your dad, so on a device where the volume can be turned up, it's not a problem. (It's most annoying when one of the speaker's volume is significantly lower than the other's, because that can't be fixed on the listener's end.)
Exactly. We try to match the volumes and that is typically dependent on the volume of the guest who quite often doesn't have a mic or any other kind of recording equipment.
I agree with Dad. There's something inherently wrong with the whole idea of trick-or-treat, both the treat part and the trick part. And now with grown-ups getting more into the dress-ups than the kids, the whole thing has gone topsy-turvy.
This was a great discussion. It came across as honest, sincere, and unpolished in the best possible ways. Your father shows great moral and intellectual strength of character, alongside humility. This kind of wisdom inspires me to be better today. I don’t believe in pining for the “good old days”if there ever were any, but conversations like this with older generations make me simply wish for more of the kinds of people like your father in the world. We need so many more of them; “Fight for what the country could be.”; It can be a privilege to go through hardship.”; even “I’m not a big fan of anybody.” It all adds dimensions to how I’ll hear future podcasts. Thank you Connie.
What a fantastic conversation, thanks Charles and Connie! It's always a delight hearing two thoughtful, independent-minded people of character have a good, wide-ranging chat about life.
(P.S.: I also found the recording very, very quiet - I listened to it on my phone with headphones, and still found I had to listen intently to hear it. The quietest ambient noise, like running water, was able to mostly drown you out.)
The volume is very low on this podcast. It's hard for me to hear.
Hey there, we're not having any problem hearing it. Unsure what the issue may be.

An exemplary dad!
