JEWISH AMERICAN CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE JAZZ TRADITION
Tuesday, May 30, 2023, 11am ET
ANNOUNCING the “Jewish American Contributions to the Jazz Tradition” event, celebrating Jewish American Heritage Month. This event is presented by the Omni-America Future Project in partnership with the Combat Antisemitism Movement, the American Sephardi Federation, and the Jazz Leadership Project.
During the event, you will have the opportunity to explore the significant contributions made by numerous American Jews to the rich history of jazz music. We believe that the power of jazz extends beyond the notes themselves, and that it represents the intensity of life that we expect from great art.
The fifty-minute event set to broadcast on Tuesday, May 30th at 11am ET will feature five fascinating stories of Jewish American contributions to the history of jazz, with music, videos, and interviews. Co-Directors of the Omni-American Future Project, Aryeh Tepper and Greg Thomas, will narrate the event, introducing us to the Jewish family that inspired Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman's role in defeating segregation, Lee Konitz's cool, introverted musical style, Michael Brecker's volcanic overflow on tenor saxophone, and Arnie Lawrence's inspirational instruction.
The webinar will offer unique perspectives both on America's home-grown form of fine art and Jewish American history.
