Beautiful tribute to a legend. Grateful so many can benefit from his wisdom beyond the ivory tower. In a sane world, he would be a university president and not frauds like Gay.
Excellent survey! I've written quite a bit about the general underwhelmingness of the Ivy League experience, but for me Glenn Loury was the great exception. The two classes I took with him were the highlights of my time at Brown and I've been pleased to sporadically reconnect with him over the years.
Wow, wow, wow! I come home from vacation to find a column about the amazing Glenn Loury! I cannot wait to read this. Thank you everyone at Free Black Thought for such a treat, and Happy New Year!
Thank you for this wonderful praise of this incredible human being that has become my intellectual mentor. I hope he continues to be unfettered by the duties of administration (I don’t wish him a university presidency!) and free to share his wisdom. I do wish him a growing and broader reach: everybody of good will would be enriched by his thought.
I know I'm biased in favor of this perspective as I'm also a Thomist, like my father before me, but I found this appreciation of Lowry's thought from your three postulates of human nature quite insightful and engaging. Thanks for writing this; I'll be chewing it over for awhile.

I enjoyed this deeply. Thank you.
What have economists said about the depreciation of all of the automobiles that Americans have trashed since Sputnik?
