I definitely enjoyed this interview. We have to make education more than just about being able to get a job. This is why most stop educating themselves once they leave school. Because we read a book to write a report instead of reading a book for enjoyment, students begin to hate reading, or read just enough to write the report. I love the Dr's words; wonder, wisdom and virtue as the foundation for the development and education of a child. And your wisdom is great as well, for as you said whether we homeschool or not every parent is a homeschool teacher and every home is a school. One final praise for you Connie, I love your idea of having a child graduate from school then attend a trade school, that provides them with the resources needed to go to college after 2-3 years if that's now what they want to do. I'd add that right after high school, the child should travel throughout the USA or go to a foreign country for 3-6 weeks and experience how other people live and learn before jumping onto the employment or college treadmill.

Hi Cecil. Thanks for your thoughtful comment (as usual). In your mind, if travel should be part of the post-high school pre-college experience is that something parents should save for? Instead of a college fund a travel fund perhaps? Now that I'm thinking about it it would probably be awesome if one of the parents could take the child on a month long road trip or to an international destination. That would be a really awesome family tradition.
