Very fine essay. I think that the group behavior you describe--in the time-frame of the last 15 years or so--cannot be explained without strong reference to social media channels. The demand for reduced academic standards in the name of helping Blacks is coming from progressive whites but also quite a few Blacks in academia. The leaders from the Civil Rights era would be incredulous.
Amping this comment from the original posting back up to say (from experience) most of us (former in my case) progressive anti-racist white folks pushing all this condescension learned it and we're given our orders to perform it from black leaders (primarily academics and intellectuals, yes).
We (formerly, in my case, but the point is I'm sharing this from decades inside this stuff) wouldn't have dared to presume to push anything related to race unless it was approved by those black leaders b/c we were fully convinced that we were indelibly stained by our whiteness.
(This is why even though in most progressive circles "heterodox" perspectives from black people about race just get dismissed as "Uncle Tom"-ing, it's important that white people who do care about racism get to hear pushback against this dominant anti-racist narrative *from* black people. We wouldn't allow ourselves to even listen to the arguments from a white person, which is way spaces like FBT are so important.)
I taught at a merit based (entrance by grades and exam scores) high school with a predominantly black student body and this made me tear up. Watching teenagers with so much raw talent and drive leave without the attitude and skills needed to succeed because of exactly what you describe was infuriating.

Interesting comment on the ‘whiteness’ of being on time, this was just brought up by Duke School of Medicine as a white supremacist concept.
Great Article! I hope it opens eyes and minds!! Well Done !
This was such a great piece, very insightful. I’ve not read anything like this before so it was really eye opening to me.
As usual, another great article. It continues to amaze me how often our forefathers continue to be applicable. Thank you for writing this.
Great! TY.
Truly outstanding essay!
Excellent, and unflinching. I know I'm not the only one off to read this story: https://www.unz.com/print/AmMercury-1933nov-00326/
